Hello fellow humans,
I've been away for a few weeks dealing with this thing we call, "The Holidays". Some of us celebrate Diwali. Some celebrate Hanukkah. Some celebrate Christmas. And some celebrate the Winter Solstice or Yule (that's me!!)
I have to say, they don't feel like a true holiday. They feel like a lot of running around buying, decorating, eating, and doing things more often than we normally do...like run around, buy, decorate, and eat.
Over the years I've learned some really eye opening things about gift giving and the world we live in that I'd like to share. The biggest lesson being the two best gifts you can give another living being are your Time and Food.
Giving your time to help your bestie finish a project, then ending the day with a pizza is one of the BEST gives ever. Spending the day with your child/ren will produce memories out lasting any plastic toy or bobble. Memories keep our landfills empty!!
Giving your time to feed those in need at a shelter, or the families of hospital patients is a priceless gift to humanity that is worth so much more then socks you don't need, another umbrella, or a coffee mug telling you you're number 1.
Giving the gift of food is such a special treat. Making jams, homemade mustards, or seasoned salt blends aren't as difficult as they may seem, and everyone enjoys foods made with great ingredients and love!
Here is an article about pathological consumption by George Monbiot. It's quick, maybe ten minutes, and so worth the read.
Here is a link to making five different spice blends that the chefs and bakers in your life will love!!
From my heart to yours, I hope you have a wonderfully peaceful holiday season. I hope your new year is filled with love, morality, compassion, empathy and more love!!
